Destination Wedding Photographers

No matter the size or location of your wedding, it should be a celebration of you and your partner and this step in your adventure together! A big or more traditional wedding is all about expanding that celebration and inviting everyone who is part of your life to participate. We'll tell the story of your wedding through the lens of your relationship as well as showcase how you were supported by those who love you most around you. So you can soak up every moment on your special day because we'll capture it all on camera for you to relive for years to come! Meet your destination wedding photographer!

Why have a "Traditional" Wedding?

We're huge proponents of elopements because we're huge proponents of doing what you want and what feels right for your relationship. We didn't elope because it didn't feel like the best for us. Traditional weddings kick off your new adventure together with an energetic bang surrounded by the people who love you most!

Is a “Traditional” Wedding for Me?

Remember, you can’t make the wrong choice — do what makes sense for you and your partner. With that in mind, here are a couple of thoughts to help guide your decision:

  • You have a strong community of family and friends and it feels wrong to not have them around you for your commitments

  • Your heritage or tradition values community involved weddings and you feel strong ties to that past

  • You love a good dance party and couldn’t imagine getting married without one

If any of those feel true for you and your partner, a traditional wedding might be for you!

Embrace the Non-Traditional

I put traditional in quotes because no matter the venue or size, we will always support taking the non-traditional route. We had a simple rule for planning our wedding: No traditions for traditions sake. It had to be meaningful to us to be a part of our day. I can’t recommend this approach more! Go full on Marie Kondo on your wedding day, if it doesn’t spark joy, get it out of there!

What we didn't expect was that Kyle and Tori were so much more than just amazing photographers, from the moment they arrived they integrated seamlessly and despite not ever meeting them prior, quickly became friends. They made both of us feel completely comfortable and did whatever they could to make our day stress free and fun.

What to look for in a wedding photographer

So now you know you need a professional photographer to entrust your wedding photography to, how do you go about picking the perfect photographer? Obviously, we’d love it if you picked us, but we can only be in one place at a time, what if we’re already booked? Here are some tips to figuring out if a photographer is right for you:

  • We are going to spend a lot of time together throughout your wedding day, so let's make sure we're a good fit in the personality department! We always recommend getting on the phone or a video call before booking. This will be a great time to ask questions, get to know each other, and get a feel for what your wedding day experience could look like.

  • Like any other area of life, it's easy to put your best foot forward via the internet. A photographer may have beautiful images that came entirely from styled photo shoots where the photographer was completely in control. These styled shoots produce beautiful images but aren't representative of how someone can handle various lighting scenarios and thinking on their feet when things change. You want a professional photographer who knows how to handle all of that. We always provide full galleries from real weddings so you can get a feel for what working with us can really look like. We highly recommend you ask for full galleries from any potential photographer you're considering for your wedding!

  • style. When you're looking over their example galleries, pay attention to the style of their imagery, does it fit your vision for your dream wedding? While shooting weddings, we take a mixture of photojournalism (candidly documenting the emotion and moments) and traditional direction (efficiently posing to speed up family and wedding party photos, for example). We aim for a timeless, true-to-life style for our images. We want your photographs to look like how it felt on your wedding day. If that's what you're looking for, we should definitely chat!

What is a destination wedding?

Broadly speaking, a destination wedding is traveling to any location to get married. For us, it's much more about incorporating your location into to your photos and weaving it into the story. It doesn't matter how far you decide to go, what matters is that the place is special to you and you want that place reflected in your images!

Why should you have a destination wedding?

You may have noticed the wide variety of locations in our portfolio. We're huge proponents of travel and experiencing new places. Why not share a cool location with the people closest to you? Maybe your friends and family will need to travel to your wedding anyway, why not experience an awesome place all together?

Where should you have your destination wedding?

We're pretty partial to Utah, Colorado, and the rest of the American West. We love the nearly endless variety of locations this region offers us. You'll find anything from red rock deserts to mountain lakes and rocky coastlines. Here are a couple of our favorites:

While we focus in on Utah and Colorado, we have lots of experience photographing weddings in all kinds of new to us locations! So no matter where you decide to go, we can create amazing images for you! Plus, we have a huge list of destinations that we love or would love to photograph at, so if you’re looking for some inspiration, let us know!

“My husband and I would highly recommend Kyle and Tori. We knew that a destination wedding out West was something we wanted but had no idea where to start… You will not go wrong with selecting this dynamic duo. Honestly, having Kyle document our wedding just added to our perfect day. We felt as if we were just spending the day with a friend vs posing in front of a camera all day.”

+ Does a destination wedding have to be international?

Nope! Like we mentioned above, we define destination weddings as a wedding that incorporates the location into the visual story. Any place can be meaningful to you, so anywhere can be a location for a destination wedding!

When should you arrive?

We always encourage giving yourself enough time to enjoy the place you've decided to get married at. For logistical purposes, we recommend giving yourself at least 3-4 full days at your location that are not the wedding day. You can do a couple of things during these days:

  • Book your wedding portrait adventure session and really show off the beautiful area you got married in!

  • Give yourself time to take care of any required local paperwork for the legal part of your wedding.

  • Take some time to simply relax and enjoy your wedding location!

  • Hang out with family and friends that traveled to be with you!

Destination Wedding Photographer FAQ

  • For any location that requires travel, we prefer to arrive two days before our first event with you to give us plenty of time in case of travel delays. That also gives us some time to explore your wedding venue ahead of time.

  • While we are completely comfortable photographing a wedding solo, we prefer to work together. Two photographers means you can get two perspectives on your day, two sets of eyes looking for those candid moments, and the ability to cover events in two different locations (very handy for getting ready)!

  • We typically book weddings 9-12 months in advance, though we've scheduled weddings within just a couple of weeks! The further out, the better chance we'll be available on your wedding date!

  • Lots of factors weigh in to this question, but on average our couples spend $5500 on their wedding photography packages with us! Some spend more and some spend less depending on what they are looking for! Fill out our contact form and we'll send you our Price Guide!

  • We prefer to make our travel arrangements. This makes it easier for us to take all of our other travel considerations into account and you don't have to worry about it.

  • To simplify this process for our clients we average our travel costs to different regions and include those costs in our rates. For you, that means you won't have to pay anything extra beyond our photography package rates for normal travel expenses.

  • Of course! An engagement session gives us the chance to get to know each other before the big day and you get a chance to experience working with us!

You can book us for engagements, wedding portraits, anniversaries, and even boudoir sessions! We offer discounts on any session booked with your wedding package!

“… They do such quality work. They captured us, our family and our celebration so accurately and intimately. I don't think they missed getting a picture of even one of our guests, they never made us feel like we were bad at posing (which we are) they just helped us, they gave us shots of wonderful candid moments and even let us take a nap in the back of their car. If you want photographers who feel like best friends, book Kyle and Tori. I promise you will not regret it.”
